1. Vermilionville

Lafayette is home to the Acadian settlers, later known as the Cajuns, and Vermilionville is a 23-acre landscape of Acadian history. Featuring restored architecture, delicious Cajun and Creole restaurants, and staff dressed up as living history, this landmark of Lafayette is not to be missed.
Vermilionville is home to exciting festivals in addition to its daily reenactments of 18th-century history. Take your Cadillac Escalade and explore local Cajun and Zydeco music on the weekends, walk the beautiful grounds, and explore this educational section of historic Lafayette. 2. Lake Martin Rookery

Bring your mud boots and enjoy this natural paradise. Lake Martin Rookery is a unique body of water surrounded by walking areas where visitors can enjoy local blooms, colorful birds, and the occasional alligator. Watch your step!
Enjoy the local trees, explore the bayou, and even participate in one of the swamp tours. Visitors can also walk out on the boardwalk to see closer into the water. This is a magical place to enjoy nature and its wildlife.

3. Lafayette Science Museum

The Lafayette Science Museum is home to both a museum and planetarium that preserves and teaches about the cultural history of Lafayette. This attraction features large amounts of artwork, including rotating exhibits and various interactive programs. Enjoy walking and exploring with your family, and take time to eat at one of the many restaurants around.
Located in downtown Lafayette, this museum has affordable admission prices and a large number of hands-on activities. Come see the dinosaur exhibit, learn about the petroleum industry’s history, and make sure to check out the Virtual Reality Laboratory Experience.

4. Buck & Johnny’s 

Self-pronounced “eclectic Italian,” Buck & Johnny’s restaurant combines Cajun and Italian flavors in a fun Breaux Bridge environment. Wednesday through Saturday nights feature live music, as well as a Tuesday night kid’s night. Check out their event calendar. Also, make time to enjoy their Saturday morning famous Zydeco Breakfast for $10 featuring live music and great Southern food.

5. Avery Island 

Come enjoy the Jungle Gardens and tour the TABASCO factory. The factory demonstrates the creation and history of this famous hot sauce, offering samples of all available flavors. The Jungle Gardens feature beautiful natural walking paths, opportunities for wildlife sightings, and beautiful Buddhist statues. Afterward, enjoy the 1869 Restaurant.
