oil cap on a vehicle

People often put off routine oil changes because they think their car is running fine. However, it can be easy to miss engine problems, especially when things are starting to go wrong. You may only notice a decrease in fuel efficiency at first, but the moving parts that make up your motor can quickly fail after that. Here’s how often you should get a Cadillac oil change performed by your local Cadillac dealer.

There’s a good chance you should come in for an oil change if you can’t remember the last time you brought your Cadillac in for routine maintenance. As a good general rule of thumb, you should bring your Cadillac in for an oil change every three months or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Can I Go Longer Than Three Months Between Oil Changes?

It is very important to adhere to the maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual. You should come in every three months or 5,000 miles unless you choose synthetic motor oil. Also, you should come in every 3,000 miles if you have an old motor or your drive in extreme conditions. The only circumstance under which you can go over 5,000 miles without an oil change is if you choose synthetic motor oil.

How Long Can I Go Between Oil Changes With Synthetic Motor OIl?

You can go 10,000 to 12,500 miles between oil changes if you choose synthetic motor oil. With synthetic motor oil, you should bring your Cadillac in for an oil change every 10,000 if your motor is old or you drive in extreme conditions. If you have a newer motor and you drive under normal conditions, you can safely bring your Cadillac in every 12,500 miles.

What Are Extreme Driving Conditions?

Extreme driving conditions are conditions that put an inordinate amount of stress on your motor. For instance, if you drive short distances, your motor won’t be able to reach normal operating temperature, and conventional motor oil will not warm up enough to achieve the appropriate viscosity to protect your motor.

If it is freezing outside, you need to drive at least 11 miles for your motor to warm up. You need to drive at least six miles to warm up your motor if it is not cold outside.

Why Your Local Cadillac Dealer Should Perform Your Oil Change
