A variety of decorated donuts

Whether you make your stop during the morning to supplement your coffee run or venture over after dinner for a sweet dessert, any trip to your local bakery is guaranteed to lift your spirits and improve the rest of your day. Lafayette, LA is home to a collection of bakeries, and we’ve narrowed it down to the top three choices to get your baked good fix in.

1. Poupart Bakery

Poupart Bakery has been crafting authentic French baked breads, desserts, and other favorites since 1967. They have recently started offering to ship their traditional King Cake made from puffy pastry and filled with almond and their Mardi Gras King Cake with your choice of cream cheese, fruits, nuts, or a combination of fillings. Stop by in-person to see the current sampling of bread that frequently includes Poboy Loaves, Walnut Bread, Pistolettes, and Brioche.

Chocolate lovers should try a Double Fudge Chocolate Chip Cookie, a Chocolate Eclair, or an individually sized Black Forest Cake, while fruit fans will enjoy a Blackberry Mousse, a Lemon Tarte, or a Strawberry Delight. Additionally, we highly recommend a traditional European delight such as an Orange Blossom Baklava, a French Butter Cookie, a Raspberry Macaroon, or a Cannoli. Be sure to order a Chantilly Cake filled with fresh fruit for your next big event!

2. Keller’s Bakery

Keller’s Bakery was originally founded by a French immigrant in 1895 who came from a long line of experienced and talented bakers. Every King Cake is individually made using a recipe that’s over a century old, and available flavors include cream cheese, cinnamon butter, butter pecan, strawberry cream cheese, cream cheese pecan, blueberry cream cheese, cinnamon apple cream cheese, amaretto walnut, and raspberry walnut.

We love to start our mornings off with a glazed or chocolate donut, a pecan roll made from an upside-down cinnamon roll with caramel pecan topping, or a sweet dough pie filled with sweet potato, lemon, coconut, fig, strawberry, or apple. For a sweeter treat, you can’t go wrong with a coconut jelly roll filled with raspberry or a sandtart with pecans and chocolate filling. We’re also big fans of Keller’s pecan pie that comes in individual or full-sized servings.

3. Cajun Market Donut Company

Cajun Market Donut Company combines traditional sweet donut flavorings with a savory Cajun kick on baked goods. For customers with kids or diners who are kids at heart, we suggest the Donut Decorating Kid’s Meal that comes with either two regular donuts or a dozen donut holes, regular milk or chocolate milk, icing, and sprinkles to customize the donuts to your heart’s content. For a simple yet delicious snack, ask for the Boudin or the Creole stuffed bread.

Cake donut options include blueberry, strawberry, chocolate, cinnamon sugar, and red velvet; alternatively, the filled donuts come in delicious flavors like lemon, cream cheese, raspberry, chocolate, and Bavarian cream. Start your morning on a savory note with a Breakfast Kolache, or check out the specialty sweets menu for cinnamon rolls, cinnamon twists, apple fritters, chocolate eclairs, maple bacon bars, and signature Cajun beignets.
Whether you prefer sweet or savory baked goods, a visit to any bakery listed above is sure to brighten your day and boost your mood. After enjoying every last crumb, stop by Service Cadillac of Lafayette to browse new cars, pre-owned vehicles, and the best deals on services!
