1. Lafayette Free Concert Series

Spring is the time to enjoy free music concerts in Lafayette, the self-proclaimed Free Music Capital of the World. Join the festivities in March and April and listen to every type of music imaginable, from Cajun, Creole, and Zydeco to rock, folk, indie, and soul. Put on your dancing shoes and head to Downtown Lafayette on Friday evenings in March at 5:30 for Downtown Alive!, the city’s top spring street party since 1983, attracting thousands of music lovers.

Get your boogie on under the gazebo between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays in April at Rhythms on the River, a free evening concert at River Ranch Town Square at 110 Camellia Boulevard, and have lunch at noon on Fridays on Polk Street for Bach Lunch. 

2. Festival International de Louisiane

Each year at the end of April, the colorful and free five-day Festival International de Louisiane transforms downtown Lafayette into a cultural wonderland that showcases theatre, dance, music, visual arts, and cuisine from every corner of the globe with an emphasis on the French-speaking diaspora.

There’s always an incredible festive vibe with live local and international music performances on the stages, cultural workshops, art exhibitions, craft displays, and delicious food to eat. 

3. Springfest

Celebrate spring at the yearly Springfest on Saturday, April 22, between 3 and 7 p.m. in the beautiful Moncus Park at 2913 Johnston Street in Lafayette. It’s a fantastic free festival for nature lovers showcasing the park’s highlights with scenic nature walks, park tours, guided canopy tours, and kite flying.

The festival also includes a symposium on indigenous plants, environmental programs, and talks hosted by community experts. There will be food trucks and plenty of interactive outdoor activities for the kids. 

4. Festival des Fleurs

Festival des Fleurs, held in the middle of April at the Blackham Coliseum at 2330 Johnston Street between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., is Lafayette’s premier garden show and has inspired local gardeners for three decades. See the beautiful garden displays, get gardening information at the kiosks, and buy plants and garden-related products from over 100 vendors.

Local gardening societies offer hands-on gardening activities and a wealth of knowledge on plants and gardening techniques. Kids can learn to garden with Ms. Alice and find out more about bees and other pollinators from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
