There are two common flat tire scenarios that can occur: you either walk out to your car and notice that the tire no longer has air, or you hear the unmistakable flapping sound as you’re driving down the road. While one scenario is more ideal than the other, it’s still no fun to get a flat. Should you find that you get a flat while driving down the road, get it to your Cadillac dealer.

What You Should Do When You Get a Flat Tire, According to a Cadillac Dealer

1. Slow Down and Find a Safe Spot to Pull Over

If you’re driving down the road and realize that your car has a flat, the first thing you need to do is find a safe spot to pull over. Ideally, you’ll be able to pull over onto the right-hand shoulder of the road, but if that’s not possible, go wherever you can to get your car out of the way.

Make sure to turn on your hazards to warn other drivers that you’re in trouble. If you have flares or other reflective items that can indicate to drivers that you’re on the side of the road, put those out when it’s safe to do so.

2. Call for Help

After pulling over and making sure that other drivers can avoid you, the next thing you should do is call for help. This is especially important if you don’t know how to change the tire. It can be incredibly dangerous being on the side of the road trying to figure out how to use a jack or tire iron. Instead, calling a tow truck is in your best interest.

If you happen to have AAA or other roadside assistance, or this issue is covered by your insurance company, any of these entities can help you during this trying moment as well. More than likely, they’ll recommend being towed to a dealership to get this issue fixed as soon as possible.

3. Get Your Tire Replaced

Getting your flat fixed will be at the top of your priority list, and working with a professional is in your best interest. Depending on why the tire went flat in the first place, you may need to get new tires, or you may be able to patch the one you already have. A professional will be able to quickly and accurately inspect the tire and let you know what needs to be done to get you back on the road.

Losing air in your tire while driving down the road can be an incredibly frightening and frustrating experience. You may not know when it’s going to happen, but you can put a plan in place to get you through the ordeal. When you need new tires or other services, visit Service Cadillac.
