Fall is a time of year that is especially beautiful in Lafayette, LA. The vibrant oranges and reds of the foliage, the crisp air, and the natural beauty are all part of the charm of this season. With the cooler temperatures and shorter days, it’s the perfect time to get outside and explore some fall activities in the area.

Take the Car and Discover These 3 Favorite Activities Near Lafayette, LA

Enjoying the Foliage at Acadiana Park

The first activity near Lafayette that we recommend is enjoying the foliage at Acadiana Park. While there are many places in Louisiana where you can see the foliage, Acadiana Park is one of the best. The park is located just south of downtown Lafayette, so it’s easy to get to by car. There are multiple trails at Acadiana Park, which makes it easy to find a hike or walk that’s just right for you.

The Gold Leaf Trail, which is a 1.6-mile loop that’s accessible to all skill levels, is a great place to start. While you’re taking in the scenery, you can also learn a little about local history, as there are several signs along the trail that explain the natural and human history of the area.

Going on a Hayride at the La Maison Plantation

If you crave a little more action during your trip to Lafayette, then we recommend going on a hayride at La Maison Plantation. Located at 40136 LA-942, Darrow, La Maison Plantation was once a cotton plantation, but today it’s home to a restaurant, gift shop, and a variety of fun activities for kids and adults alike. One of the most popular activities at La Maison is the hayride.

The hayride takes you through the plantation fields, where you can see the beautiful foliage. Along the way, you’ll see giant cotton bolls and various freshly harvested crops and learn about the history of the plantation. The hayride ends with a visit to the kid-friendly Haunted Corn Maze. The Haunted Corn Maze includes a variety of fun Halloween-themed activities, such as a cow chip throwing contest and a pumpkin bowling game.
