How Long Has It Been Since Your Cadillac's Last Oil Change?

It is not uncommon for people to put off routine maintenance, like an oil change, to save money. However, not sticking to the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule can cost you a lot of money in the long run. If it’s been a while since you had your oil replaced at your local Cadillac dealer, read on to discover everything you need to know about this important service.

How Long Has It Been Since Your Cadillac’s Last Oil Change?

If you can’t remember the last time your oil was changed at your local dealership, you’re not alone. However, it’s important to have a highly trained mechanic change your oil regularly to keep your engine purring and delay the need for expensive repairs and part replacements.

Generally, you should have your local dealer change your oil at least twice a year if you rarely drive. If you drive a lot and opt for synthetic motor oil, you should generally come in every 10,000 to 12,500 miles to have your oil and oil filter changed.

What Signs Indicate You Should Have Your Car Serviced at Your Local Cadillac Dealer?

You Have a Dashboard Light Illuminated

While you should only need to come in to have your oil replaced every 12,500 miles or six months, exceptions apply. One sign that you need your oil replaced at your local dealer sooner is an illuminated check engine light. Similarly, you should schedule a service appointment at your local dealership immediately if your change oil light is illuminated.

You Smell Something Burning

Another sign your oil needs to be changed is smelling something burning while you drive. There are a couple of reasons why you may smell something burning. For example, you may smell burning oil if you are leaking oil onto your engine. As another example, the burning smell may be caused by oil that is too thick or dirty to cool your engine properly while it runs.

Your Engine Sounds Wrong

You should also schedule a service appointment at your local dealership if your engine doesn’t sound right. If you hear a grinding or knocking sound coming from your engine bay, it could be that parts of your motor are rubbing against each other during operation because the engine is no longer lubricated as it should be. You also may hear odd sounds due to circulating debris in your oil.

A certified Cadillac mechanic should change your oil at least twice annually. If you drive regularly, you should have your oil and oil filter replaced at least every 12,500 miles.
