Places to have some fun in the Summer in Lafayette, LA

Lafayette, Louisiana, offers entertaining and exciting activities throughout the year, but it’s especially enjoyable during summer. Whether you live in the area or you’re just visiting, if you’re searching for some fun things to enjoy this summer, be sure to check out a few of these top options.

LARC’s Acadian Village

LARC’s Acadian Village is an open-air museum that showcases what Acadian life was like in southwest Louisiana during the 19th century. If you’re looking for something the entire family will enjoy, stop by the park to take a tour of the village. Some of the buildings you’ll see include a replica blacksmith shop and Doctor Salles’ House, which belonged to the first dentist in the area. The park also has special events happening during the summer. The Pop Up Summer Camp is open to children between the ages of 7 and 9 and offers educational science activities.

Southern Stone Indoor Climbing

If you have an afternoon rainstorm pass through or you simply need a break from the Louisiana heat, head to Southern Stone Indoor Climbing for some fun. This indoor climbing facility brings the mountains to Lafayette. Here you’ll find opportunities for bouldering, top roping, auto belay, and sport climbing. In the Movement Through Climbing class, you’ll learn about the basics of climbing and get a full-body workout at the same time.

Vermilionville Historic Village

If you want to learn something new this summer, spend the day at Vermilionville Historic Village. This Cajun and Creole living history museum has a number of restored 18th- and 19th-century historic structures open for exploring. The museum also has a variety of special events happening in the summer. Summer Camp at Vermilionville gives children a cultural and recreational learning experience. You can also stop by for a live music concert every Sunday, or fully immerse yourself in the French language with Films en Français.

Lafayette Science Museum

Another great place to visit this summer to learn something new is the Lafayette Science Museum. In addition to the interactive exhibits that explore geology, marine biology, and paleontology, the museum will also offer programs throughout the summer that examine outer space. Children between the ages of 6 to 12 can stop by for the Accidental Astronauts to learn more about the Earth, sun, and moon. In the evening, everyone is welcome to attend the fascinating Sky Tonight presentation that lets you view constellations, stars, and planets.

Girard Park Recreation Center

Girard Park Recreation Center has a number of recreational activities you can enjoy this summer. When you need to cool off, you can head to the outdoor pool. If you’re looking for some fun, check out the tennis courts, open play area, basketball courts, playground, and disc golf course. Or, you can simply pack a lunch to savor at the picnic area.
