Modern vehicles have a huge variety of electrical systems and components. These systems make driving easier and more enjoyable than ever before. Electrical systems can develop problems, even in a Cadillac. A minor electrical fault can cause a component to shut down and create further trouble. As your Cadillac dealer, we can fix any of these electrical problems for you. These are a few signs of electrical trouble.

Broken Rectifier

Your Cadillac has numerous electrical systems and accessories, all of which depend on DC power. Your alternator is the mini generator in your engine that produces electricity. It does this by converting the mechanical energy generated by your crankshaft turning into magnetic energy. This magnetic energy is then captured by the stator and changed into AC.

Since your car requires DC, the rectifier’s job is to convert AC to DC. This small component can eventually fail, and without it, the electricity can’t be converted. Your computer will automatically switch to drawing DC from the battery, which will drain the battery very quickly. Our technicians will test the rectifier and replace it if it’s broken. Once the new rectifier is installed, your car’s electrical systems will return to normal.

Dead Battery

A car battery has a limited lifespan. On average, you’ll need to have a battery replacement every three to five years. A battery contains several chemicals which react with copper and other materials inside the battery and enable it to store electricity and recharge.

As time passes, these chemicals gradually break down. As this happens, your battery becomes steadily weaker and will fail. To prevent an unexpected battery failure, we advise testing your battery when it’s three years old. We have up-to-date technology to test the battery and reveal any possible weaknesses or potential failures. If your battery is failing, we can replace it while you wait.

Worn Spark Plugs

Spark plugs provide the charge that enables your car to move. The combustion process requires fuel and air to mix, and this mixture is then injected into the cylinders. The fuel-air mix is highly compressed, then ignited by the spark plugs to create combustion. Spark plugs can fail for several reasons, including age, damage by a fuel-rich engine, or the failure of their attached ignition coil.

If a spark plug fails, you’ll experience misfiring, and the fuel-air mix in a cylinder doesn’t ignite as it should. If more than one spark plug fails, your car could stall. Misfiring is more than a nuisance, it can damage the cylinder and the piston if it isn’t fixed. We can test your spark plugs and replace any damaged ones.

These are just some of the problems we can fix for you. Call us today at Service Cadillac.
